Footprints in the Sand是由基督教詩歌Footprints改編而來的一首歌。最初是Cowell想出主意要基於這首詩來寫一首歌的，接著他又詢問作曲和製作人團隊 David Kreuger和Per Magnusson是否能寫些東西來完成這首歌曲。他們在Richard Page馬布裡的家裡開了個關於歌曲創作的會議，並在第二天順利完成了這支單曲。在一次HitQuarters的採訪中，Magnusson說他們本來認為這首歌給Westlife,唱比較合適，但是最後這首歌卻給了Lewis。當Cowell向Lewis提起這首歌曲的構思時，她表示這首歌“相當有趣”。為了完成這首歌，Cowell還設法聯繫了一個製作團隊。Lewis談起這首歌時，形容它“很感人，歌詞很振奮人心”。這首歌的主題就是“在別人需要幫助時施以援手”。

為了宣傳這支單曲，Lewis於2008年3月9日在Dancing on Ice現場表演了這首歌，伴隨著這首歌的優美旋律，Torvill和Dean表演了一支特別的冰上舞蹈。
