耶誕節新年英語兒歌:12 Days of Christmas 耶誕節的12天

這首歌的歌詞，表面上是講耶誕節的十二天裡要做的事，看起來其實就只是一首很可愛的歌而已，好像沒有什麼太大的含意在裡面，其實，不只是這樣喔！“耶誕節的十二日”可說是一首寓意極為深遠的“啟蒙歌曲”。這首聖誕歌最原始是由英國的天主教派所寫成，由於十六世紀之後的一兩百年，英格蘭的國會並不承認這個教派，所以他們依法不能傳教，或公開從事他們的信仰活動。在當時，身為一位天主教徒可是違法的呢！被抓到之後，輕則牢獄之災，重則被砍頭或被吊死都有可能。既然如此，天主教派應該如何秘密傳教呢？於是，他們便寫了這首歌！歌曲乍聽之下跟宗教完全不相干，只是在講十二天裡要為耶誕節準備十二種禮物，其實，這十二種禮物暗示著天主教裡十二種宗教上的含義。

在耶誕節的十二天，我的真愛每一天送給我一種不同的禮物：十二個打鼓的鼓手、十一個吹風笛的風笛手、十個跳躍的男人、九位跳舞的女士、八位擠奶的傭婦、七隻游水的天鵝、六隻生蛋的鵝、五隻金戒指、四隻鳴唱的鳥兒、三隻法國母雞、兩隻鳩、及一隻站在梨樹上的鷓鴣鳥。附十二種禮物所各代表的寓義.

(十個跳躍的男人)= 十誡。

Nine Ladies Dancing

(九位跳舞的女士)= 九種聖果，即仁愛、喜樂、和平、忍耐、恩慈、良善、信實、溫柔、節制。

Eight Maids-a-Milking

(八位擠奶的傭婦)= 八福，即穌登山訓眾所說的八種幸福。

Seven Swans-a-Swimming

（七隻游水的天鵝)= 七種聖事，即洗禮、堅信、聖禮、告解、塗油、敘階和婚姻。

Six Geese-a-Laying

(六隻生蛋的鵝)= 主創造世界的六天

Five Golden Rings

(五隻金戒指)= 摩西五經，主要是在講人類為何墮入凡塵。

Four Calling/Collie Birds
