此曲是60年代最具代表性的女生組合 "The Marvelettes" 原唱。曾經是1961年R&B和流行榜的雙料冠軍，後來70年代兄妹檔The Carpenters（木匠兄妹）也很爭氣地在1975年重新詮釋後又得到流行榜冠軍，也成為史上原唱與重唱都得冠軍的七支單曲之一。
這首歌有很多翻唱版本，著名的有The Beatles 的 John Lennon 在1963年的版本。原版的歌詞有一句是For my boyfriend so far away，而The Beatles的版本是For my girlfriend so far away。
